Based in Adelaide Street, Fleetwood, Addies was founded in 1881 by Robert Forrester Addie, who purchased a solicitors’ practice from the executors of John Bond, who had founded it twenty years earlier. In 1907 – roughly the same time he became Recorder of Salford County Court – his sons Douglas and Clive qualified as solicitors and took over the firm. Upon their deaths (within three months of each other), Douglas’s son, Robert, and Mr R Preston took over the running of the firm.
The firm was subsequently bought from the Forrester Addie estate by Henry Melling, an assistant solicitor with the firm. He ran the practice until 1983, at which time Charles Knowles purchased the practice from him. Mr Knowles went on to take the role of Notary Public, a crucial legal position which had been held by various members of the Forrester Addie family from 1882 to 1988.
By sheer coincidence, it was also in 1983 that solicitor Trevor Jones purchased 62 Adelaide Street and commenced trading. Five years later he joined forces with CC & D Forrester Addie (as the firm had been known all along) and the partnership acquired 60 Adelaide Street, changing its collective name to Addie Jones.
Since then, Addies – as our firm is now called – has gone from strength to strength. We adhere to traditional values yet remain abreast of technological progress, and this has allowed us to prosper. Our partners and fee earners all focus on difference aspects of law, allowing us to offer the highest level of service and expertise at all times. We pride ourselves on a local, people-focused approach: many members of our staff were born and live in Fleetwood, and some have been at Addies for over twenty years. We are proud to be a local firm and look forward to meeting your legal needs, whatever may be on your mind.
